Tesla S P100D Can Get From 0-60 Mph in Less Than 2.5 Seconds

February 15, 2017

Tesla has been on the forefront of the automobile industry for quite a while now. The automobile was introduced back in 2003 and has since then placed its feet firmly in the green-car market. It is soon to release one of its much-awaited newer versions of the Model 3. The automaker claims that it will be the most efficient of its electric cars so far. Another popular model of Tesla is the Model S.

This model, in specific, has managed an outrageous feat. It recently received a software upgrade that made the electric car a beast. The Model S P100D now has this Ludicrous mode which lets the automobile run from 0-60 mph in mind-boggling, beyond comprehension 2.28 seconds.

Do you realize what that means? It means that the Tesla Model S, on this new mode, has a pick up that can beat the infamous Ferrari LaFerrari, boasting a staggering 949 horsepower. Bear in mind that Tesla has achieved this feat while being an electric car.

The Engineering

When Tesla managed to do the impossible, it turned a lot of heads towards itself, and frankly, there is no reason why it wouldn’t. The already great car has just become greater. While everybody enjoyed the incredible feat, the auto geeks were interested in how exactly Tesla pulled it off. People wanted to know the engineering behind the Tesla S P100D Ludicrous mode.

The implausible acceleration of Tesla Model S is based on three key factors: an AWD traction, the 680 horsepower assisted by quick electric torque, and extreme grip.

A Great Advantage

An automobile’s grip over the terrain in extreme braking conditions tells you about the grip it has on the road. This is where you realize the grip you can make use of while driving at fast speeds. This grip is what lets you achieve the feat Model S has achieved. Now let’s get down to a few numbers to understand the benefit even better.

In a 102-feet braking test, a 2.32-second acceleration figure was determined. But Motor Trend’s test number was slightly lower. The discrepancy can be due to rounding off the numbers used. However, you cannot solely rely on the numbers stated by Motor Trend as it accounts for weather conditions during calculations. In other words, the 2.28-second figure is also theoretical.

Further research is being put into the engineering. However, one thing is for sure, we can expect far quicker electric vehicles—provided they keep their weight down. You can also expect the upcoming Tesla Roadster to be as quicker, provided it gets the same drivetrain as P100D’s.
